Tip: BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP

If you are an avid downloader like myself, then you have probably downloaded a trojan or malware that has just wreaked havoc on your computer.  Using some of the available freeware to fix the problem is usually the course taken.  Most of the times this works.

But, every now and again, there is just no resolution in sight.  Been there.  The only solution is to reboot your operating system.  In five years I have been fortunate to only have to do this procedure three times.  After the second time I learned a valuable lesson that is my tip for today.

The tip I give is obvious: BACKUP...BACKUP...BACKUP.  I know that many of us do not like to bother with this so here is what I suggest.  Either make a full iso backup of the system or just do what I do.  I take a 16gb flash drive and copy all the programs I like to use or deem important.  Since 90 per cent are freeware I could simply re-download them but that takes a whole lot of search time. This is important to do since I usually keep my download files near empty to save disk space and memory (it helps to keep my laptop running fast).

I also keep a document copy of all the addons to my browsers.  They don't stay with my browser and do not have a separate download folder so I can't exactly copy them to the flash drive.  And, though I may use them day in and day out, I have a devil of a time remembering their names.  This causes me to do a lot of time consuming and frustrating searching for each addon.

Passwords are a problem also but an easily resolved problem.  A service called LASTPASS keeps all my passwords and sites safe.  I just re-download the addon and there they all are, problem resolved.

Sometimes downloading can be addictive because there is so much variety offered.  But, it is also frought with many dangers.  Avoid those nasty trojans and malware, avoid the blue screen of death, and lessen the need to have to perform an entire reboot.  But, if it becomes necessary, be prepared with some very simple backup policies.

The First Tip

I am often asked what is the first tip I would give some one about using their computer.  There is only one that I would start with, and it is not a technical tip, as some might expect.  Rather, it is a common sense approach to life's little situations.

The tip is....hold onto your hats....KEEP YOUR COOL AND REMAIN CALM.  Good advice in any situation.  Sometimes we can get a fright with the blue screen of death, or become frustrated with a browser that has been hijacked, or any number of other scenarios.  Simply stay calm because there is usually a solution nearby waiting to be utilized.  If you start pressing buttons and replacing items without knowing the possible results the end result will always be trouble.

So follow my tip and stay calm...KEEP YOUR COOL DUDE!

Speed up your Firefox

Speed up your Firefox and have an enjoyable day...  That is my motto.

Okay, let's get down to the brass tacks.  Speeding up your Firefox browser is not very difficult but it does require a few steps.  These steps are outlined in the photo below.

Depending upon which version of Firefox you may be using, the number used on max connections per server may be different.  In the photo is listed as 32, but in my case where I use Cometbird browser, I found the existing number to be 256.  After trying this with the number 32, it was much faster than originally, I then reverted back to the number 256.  What I found was lightning speed.

Remember before making any changes always make a copy of the original lines notation's and numbers.  Do this just in case something goes wrong.  But, really all I can say is enjoy the speed.
