The First Tip

I am often asked what is the first tip I would give some one about using their computer.  There is only one that I would start with, and it is not a technical tip, as some might expect.  Rather, it is a common sense approach to life's little situations.

The tip is....hold onto your hats....KEEP YOUR COOL AND REMAIN CALM.  Good advice in any situation.  Sometimes we can get a fright with the blue screen of death, or become frustrated with a browser that has been hijacked, or any number of other scenarios.  Simply stay calm because there is usually a solution nearby waiting to be utilized.  If you start pressing buttons and replacing items without knowing the possible results the end result will always be trouble.

So follow my tip and stay calm...KEEP YOUR COOL DUDE!

Speed up your Firefox

Speed up your Firefox and have an enjoyable day...  That is my motto.

Okay, let's get down to the brass tacks.  Speeding up your Firefox browser is not very difficult but it does require a few steps.  These steps are outlined in the photo below.

Depending upon which version of Firefox you may be using, the number used on max connections per server may be different.  In the photo is listed as 32, but in my case where I use Cometbird browser, I found the existing number to be 256.  After trying this with the number 32, it was much faster than originally, I then reverted back to the number 256.  What I found was lightning speed.

Remember before making any changes always make a copy of the original lines notation's and numbers.  Do this just in case something goes wrong.  But, really all I can say is enjoy the speed.

Minimize task to minimize Ram

Do you sometimes feel that your computer seems to be slowing down, losing speed?  If so, what can be done about the situation?

One of the simplest tips to speed up your computer is to simply minimize the current applications you have running on your system by clicking on the minimize button.  This will allow you to increase the amount of available RAM by a large margin.  Of coarse, depending upon how many applications are running, you may experience as much as a 50% amount of extra RAM.

Since so many of us multitask, by minimizing applications, we set aside those applications that won't be utilized by the user immediately.  Thus, our operating system will use more virtual memory and less of a physical RAM.

If you doubt my word, simply use the Windows task manager before and after minimizing your applications.  The task manager will show you the amount of RAM being used.

Recycle bin gone?

Sometimes, we get so used to our little programs on our computers and that when something goes awry we go almost into a hysteria.  Such was my case this past week.  Suddenly I could not find my recycle bin anywhere on my computer.  There was no icon and only one folder was found with nothing within.  However, when I would open the properties of the file, it showed 37 files and 540 MB of data.

Needless to say, I was somewhat perturbed.  The answer to my dilemma was so simple.  All I had to do( remember I am using Windows 7) was to right-click on my desktop, look on the context menu and click on personalization, and then choose to change an icon.  I checked the box with the trashcan looking icon and applied or entered okay.  I went back to work and my icon is back on the bottom of my page.  Maybe,my little scare and solution will help you.

Viewbix software test

In the previous post I posted a blank video, one that was not available, and a test of some free software by Viewbix.  This is a simple program whereby we may take a YouTube video and add a new layer with action buttons that allow the viewer to share and interact.  So far, using only the free version, I am somewhat impressed.  I can foresee using this program many times over.  Thus, I will recommend it to you.  Thank you for your patience in having to view this post.

For your information, simply Google the program for the home website.  Sign up is easy and quick plus there is a small survey after which, for the moment, will reward you with a five dollar Amazon gift card.  That is a very nice bonus!
