Recently I was looking for some way to download Youtube movies with IDM, Internet Download Manager, but just could not find any program or method to do so easily. Today, luck would have it that I ran across a little trick that does the trick. I found this totally by accident.
One of my searches led me to Keepvid.com, a website where I could load the Youtube url and download the movie. But the Keepvid downloader is very slow. What I failed to notice on my first try was the IDM download panel at the bottom of my page. So, I hit to download via IDM and then cancelled the download through my browser via Keepvid.
Lo and behold, it worked. Not only this was accomplished, but so far six downloads in a row have all been under 300 megabytes. Now that is amazing because normally they would be between 5 and 700 mb. Why this is so, I have yet to fathom, who am I to look a gift horse in the mouth, right? Normally, I would download in FLV format but now I can download in mp4.
